Family Note: Translated from the German, Peter Quiring's writings:

"In June of 1876 we and our two children emigrated to America. On our trip our
oldest son Peter died in Chicago. We took him along to Mt. Lake where we stepped
off the train on August 2 to make our home in the area. Nine days later our
other son John also died and we buried both children on the Johann Fast farm.
Two weeks later, the 18th of August, having lived with the Jacob Nickels during
the time, we moved to a farm 9 miles south of Lamberton. We bought this farm
together with my father and brother Johann. We lived there for 26 years, after
which we moved to a farm 3 miles east of Mt. Lake on March 25, 1902. In l912 we
decided to retire from farming and moved to Mt Lake on January 26."

Peter (Jr) died July 30 at the age of two years, ten months and four days and
John died Aug 8 at the age of one year, four months and 18 days, shortly after
they arrived in Mt. Lake. The John Fast farm, Midway Township - Sec. 18 - N.W.
Quarter, had Fast descendants living on the farm until several years ago. At
present (2000), Dean Harder lives on this place. It is located 3+ miles north of
Mt. Lake on Co. Road *1 to Co. Road *3 - then west about 3 miles. The farm place
is on the south side of Co. Road *3 with a long driveway. The Fast son,
Heinrich, planted a poplar tree at the grave site - his father is also buried
there. The tree is still standing today would be over 100 years old- it is at
the southwest corner of the farmyard.
